August 2024 AIS Ohana Newsletter

Dear AIS Families,
It is with great excitement and pride that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal of ‘Aiea Intermediate School! I am honored to join this wonderful community of educators, families, and students. I am blessed to lead a school with such a rich history and tradition of excellence!

I come to AIS with over two decades of experience in education, having served in athletics as a coach, classroom
teacher, assistant principal, district administrator, and most recently as principal at Shafter Elementary School.
Throughout my career, I have shared the same vision and mission at AIS, being deeply committed to creating an
“engaging, inspiring, and challenging learning environment where every student can realize their potential to the
fullest.”

At the core of my educational philosophy is the belief that every student has the potential to succeed, and it is our
responsibility as a united school community to provide the support, encouragement, and resources they need to
realize their full potential. I am dedicated to fostering a school culture that values diversity, collaboration, and promotes a genuine love of learning.

At AIS, we recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and
school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area of their learning
6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college and have a successful career

My aim this year is to reinstitute and revitalize our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and School Community Council (SCC) and utilize these working forums to review our school’s progress, gain parent and stakeholder input, plan school community activities, and problem solve issues which may arise throughout the year. Together, we will build on our strengths and address areas of need, ensuring that AIS remains a place where students feel a strong sense of belonging, safety, and excitement to learn.

Thank you for welcoming me into your community! I am excited about the journey ahead and confident that, together, we will achieve great things.

Yours,
Michael Jose, Proud Principal
‘Aiea Intermediate School
